This publication is the first ever scientific work on the history of Siberia. It was compiled in the 18th century by the historiographer and academician G. F. Miller (1705–1783), who took part in the Great Northern Expedition of 1733–1743 and wrote the five-volume History of Siberia, consisting of 23 chapters. This work has not yet been published in full.
Volume I includes Miller’s autobiography, preface, and text of chapters 1–5.
The Appendix contains: 1. Historical acts related to chapters 1–5. 2. Articles on Siberian antiquities: a) on monuments of Tatar antiquity found in burial mounds near the Abakan and Sayan forts; b) on ancient monuments in the Selenginsk and Nerchinsk counties; c) an explanation of some antiquities found in graves; d) about Siberian written stones.
